Storybook Soldiers
ABF The Soldiers’ Charity are delighted to sponsor Storybook Soldiers; a pioneering scheme where soldiers are recorded reading a bedtime story for their children.
This is a free service to provide a link between parents who are deployed and their children.
As one Army wife said: “My 6 year old son told his Daddy who called from Afghanistan that if he shuts his eyes while listening to the CD he thinks he is back in the room with him …”

Book of War
This moving book was put together by Captain John Jeffcock, who was part of the Allied Force that entered Iraq and freed Kuwait, the UN protection force in Bosnia – Herzegovina, and also served in South Armagh’s ‘Bandit Country’, one of the most notorious parts of Northern Ireland.
He has clearly succeeded in the aims he set out to achieve:
“My aim is to enable you the reader to understand for a moment the life and thoughts of soldiers at home and on active service. My intention is purely to communicate this in the most effective way. To do this I have put together a number of poems that are inspired by real radio exchanges, reminiscences and personal letters involving serving soldiers, as well as events in my own life. Although I have chosen the words and the focus of each piece, the content on which they are based is very literal and is still a living memory to many serving and retired soldiers.”

My Son the Enemy is a fictional novel based on truth. It follows the lives of a wealthy German Jewish family in Berlin in the 1930s. They suffer persecution by the Nazi’s, one endures many years in a concentration camp followed by a further two years detention on Cyprus by the British Government from 1946 – 1948.
