New girl band Mrs Robinson...
Ever since she can remember, Army Major’s daughter Tanya Robinson – founding member of new girlband Mrs Robinson – has waved her father off to war in the knowledge that he may never return. Her experiences inspired the poignant, yet upbeat song ‘Don’t Forget My Name’ as a tribute to soldiers who go off to war and the families and loved ones that they leave behind.
Tanya has chosen to dedicate the song to the ABF. The single was released as a free download from this website on 8 May and people downloading the single are be encouraged to give a donation to the charity in return for the track.
To launch the single, Mrs Robinson performed a live concert to soldiers and their families at Catterick Army Garrison on the evening of 8 May. The concert was broadcast online to troops serving in Iraq and all over the world. The band performed a further two concerts on 9 and 10 May at Colchester and Aldershot Garrisons, respectively.
“We are delighted that Tanya has chosen to dedicate her band’s song to the Army Benevolent Fund. Each year the ABF needs to raise around £5 million to continue its work with members of the ‘Army family’. With the current scale of operations that the British Army is involved in, demand is increasingly placed on the charity to support serving soldiers and their young families through difficult times. We hope that, through downloads of ‘Don’t Forget My Name’ a significant sum of money will be raised for our charity.”
