British Army takes on professional ice hockey team in aid of the ABF

The British Army Blades will take on a professional ice hockey team for the first time in September 2006 when they face off against the Bracknell Bees in what promises to be a hard-fought battle. As well as shooting for goals, the teams will also be playing to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Fund.

The Charity Challenge Game, generously sponsored by MAN ERF UK Ltd, will see a full night’s entertainment with a pre-game demonstration of the rules, between-period entertainment and a raffle for grand prizes, with the chance to win a car. Spectators will be able to experience the high-adrenalin atmosphere of ice hockey and the North American-style family night out.

“We’re not just coming out to play – we’re here to win,”

Rob Taylor, coach of the Blades

The British Army has historical links with ice hockey, most notably the theory that British soldiers brought the game to North America and the Grenadier Guard Lord Stanley, who gave the National Hockey League its Cup.

Event details:

The game will take place in the John Nike Leisuresport Complex, Bracknell, at 8pm on Thursday 7 September 2006, with gates opening at 7.15pm. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, £1 for under 14s, and can either be bought on the door or by calling 01344 789000.
