‘Close support’ for ABF with £15,000 cash boost

The ABF's MINI Cooper raffle, held in Germany in autumn 2005, drew to a close on 8 March when the Controller of the Fund received a cheque for £15,000. Al Voice, the Managing Director of the raffle sponsor NAAFI Financial, a subsidiary of Close Brothers Military Services (CBMS), presented the cheque at The Royal Hospital, Chelsea.

Raffle tickets had been sold all over British Forces Germany, soldiers and their families had responded superbly, and the magnificent MINI Cooper Park Lane was eventually won by Sergeant Alison Boulton AGC who is serving with 2 Royal Tank Regiment in Fallingbostel.

"We are delighted to present the ABF with this cheque which represents the commitment and loyalty of the serving men and women posted in Germany, and the hard work of ABF and NAAFI Financial staff. This has been an excellent start to our partnership with the ABF and my team are proud to have contributed to the work of the Army’s leading charity – I have no doubt there are will be further opportunities for us to build on this good work in the future."

General Webb-Carter said how much the Army Benevolent Fund appreciated the partnership with Close Brothers Military Services. He was thrilled with the money raised by this exciting joint venture and which would be used quickly and wisely to help soldiers, former soldiers and their families who are in need.
"Sadly, the need does not go away and costs of meeting it spirals upwards each year. With initiatives such as this we will meet our targets again this year so, on behalf of all those who will benefit, many thanks for what we can genuinely call 'Close Support'. It has been quite magnificent."
