The Redcoats march

The Redcoats march in a major reenactment event by The British Brigade in Bordentown, New Jersey, June 2007

Who we are

BABFA is a chapter (a branch) of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), a UK Registered Charity. For many years the ABF has had a number of loyal supporters in America. We are building on this connection, at first concentrating on New England. BABFA was formally launched at the Residence of the British Consul-General in Boston on 19 March 2007.

The Chairman of BABFA is Keith Taylor, a Korean War veteran. He would be delighted to talk to you and meet you.

What we do

BABFA has two key tasks:

  1. To raise awareness of the charity's work
  2. To raise funds which are remitted to the UK. (Although any former British soldier living in America and in need of support is eligible to apply by contacting BABFA.)

Read more about how the Army Benevolent Fund supports the Army Family.

For decades, the UK and the USA have had a special relationship. British and American forces have served alongside in World War Two and Korea and are now doing so in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Given the scale of the British Army's operations, increasing demand is placed on charity to support serving and former soldiers and their families through difficult times. Sadly, the need is growing rather than diminishing.

The British Brigade, Inc. provides Battle re-enactments, tactical demonstrations and military camps in local communities, county, state and provincial government and many historical sites.

The British Brigade, Inc. is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents to honour the memories of those British and American soldiers and their families who served their country while fighting and dying for their beliefs and loyalties during the American War of Independence.

It portrays the lives of these men and women by bringing together hundreds of soldiers and campfollowers to educate the public at weekend encampments. At least twice a weekend the Army forms for battle against Rebel forces where one can see, amid clouds of powder smoke and crash of musketry, battalions of men manoeuvring into action against their foes. Here infantry, artillery and cavalry recreate the detailed evolutions of the 18th century's most famous army.

BABFA attends several of the major events to raise awareness and invite donations.
